The earliest corporate tartan from an established business was for Highland
Spring, the mineral water company, in 1987. The trend for them was started
by the marketing environment of the 1980s and recordings of them have
in the last two years been over thirty annually.
These include District, Commemorative, Sporting, as well as Institutional.
A number come from outside Scotland as State tartans from the USA and
regional tartans from New Zealand and elsewhere. Examples are the State
of Georgia and Glenfalloch (NZ).
The desire for family tartans by names that are Scottish but have no
clan, traceable family, or head of family has led to a number of Societies/Associations being formed. These, when they create their tartans, are
another type of corporation. Examples are Ruxton, Kinnaird and Paisley.
